Paragon Welcomes Todd Claiborne!
Paragon is excited to welcome Todd Claiborne as a recruiting specialist to the team!
Todd was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, has never lost a game of Monopoly and is a huge 49ers fan… which, unlike his Monopoly streak, they haven’t won since 1995…but that’s not important here.
We sat down with Todd to learn a little more about him.
What’s your favorite music genre?
“I used to hate country music until I lived in Texas for 5 years, and now I’m hooked.”
What is your favorite TV show?
“I am a huge “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” fan. I love Larry David; I have a very dry sense of humor.”
What are you most excited for in joining the Paragon family?
“I am most excited about being a part of this great culture, the enthusiasm and being around like-minded, business professionals that really get after it. Working in a business environment, it’s important to be around positive, motivated people because those things influence what the job looks like [every day] and the environment you’ll be working in. Paragon definitely has that feel."
What in your career has inspired you to pursue recruiting?
“The opportunity to help people and be a resource in their careers and lives. It’s challenging switching careers or not knowing what to do with yours, and it can be tough on someone’s self-esteem. It’s important to have someone who is a positive influence and guide. I want to be the person that can help people with that and find their best environment.”
What attracted you to Paragon/the recruiting role?
“Everyone I’ve talked to at Paragon loves this company. There’s an authentic happiness with the job. That realness paired with the honesty the company has in recruiting – putting the candidate first over our needs – is such a rewarding feeling at the end of the day. Paragon is invested in the big picture, and being here, you have a genuine desire to show up every day.”
If you could travel anywhere around the world and money wasn’t a factor, where would you go and why?
“I would go to London, so I could go to a soccer game every day. I love soccer and being in that culture and near the stadium would be awesome!”
Who is your biggest role model and why?
“Zig Ziggler. Many people think sales is a cut-throat type of business, but Zig took it and humanized it. The reason I got into sales, and the way I live my life, is because of him. He said, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” This inspired me to help kids and become a coach for the competitive soccer team, FC United (previously the Iowa Menace), in Des Moines. Fun fact, our team won the State Cup and is ranked the #1 group in Iowa. You can live a really great life by giving others opportunities, and I get that chance through coaching this team of amazing, diverse students. I enjoy teaching life lessons through sports.”
What’s one of the coolest things to happen as a coach?
“I would say the coolest thing is definitely watching the kids on the team learn and grow. Something cool that did happen once when I coached in Minnetonka, though, was that there was a parent who worked for General Mills, and we ended up being on a Wheaties box.”
What would you consider to be a hobby of yours?
“Fitness in general. I go to the gym about four to five times per week, because I enjoy the mental release it gives me. If I was told to take one week off and do whatever I wanted, I would spend it coaching and at LifeTime.”
