When you are tired, your brain is not able to be as creative and it has a harder time processing information quickly and retaining important facts.
According to a Harvard study reported by Health.com, sleep deprivation could be costing the U.S. economy $63 billion each year due to lost productivity. When employees experience some kind of insomnia, it can cost employers about 7.8 work days worth of productivity each year.
Lack of sleep can, in fact, affect your immune system. Studies have shown that people who aren’t getting quality sleep or enough sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus. It can also affect how fast you recover from sickness. Therefore, employees may be using up their sick days quicker than they would like.
The less sleep you get, the slower you begin to get at doing tasks. A “foggy brain” from sleep can also make it much harder to be creative during work.
Getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night is recommended. Some other tips include: going to bed at the same time each night, practice a bedtime routine, avoid caffeine late in the day, and exercise daily.
